Amazon India Listing Images: Amazon Rules, Legal Metrology, and BIS

Prepare Amazon.in product images with readable mandatory declarations and category guidelines.
Amazon India image preparation involves the marketplace’s content rules and separate product disclosures. Legal Metrology’s online-display wording does not turn every declaration into a mandatory back-of-pack photograph. BIS certification also depends on the product and scheme, not simply on whether the listing is electronic.
Checked on 19 October 2026; review by 19 January 2027. This guide focuses on non-food packaged goods. The linked FSSAI guide owns food-label details. Our Legal Metrology source is consolidated through March 2022, with the February and April 2026 filter amendments read separately; this is not a complete current consolidation.
Create listing images from your product photos
Paste your Amazon, Flipkart, Walmart, or Meesho product link or upload phone shots. Picmato recommends listing image templates tailored to your product. Review the plan and choose which images to generate; a nine-image plan does not guarantee nine finished images or nine visible gallery slots. AI renderers do not guarantee an exact RGB value, so check with a color picker before uploading.
Which Amazon image specifications should you check for India?#
Check Product image requirements in the amazon.in Seller Central store and the style guide for your product category. The local help page did not expose its policy body in our public-source check on 19 October 2026. We cannot certify an exact local upload minimum or zoom threshold from that page. The linked Amazon.com guide is a reference with US scope, not proof of an identical local rule.
Our production recommendation is a sharp 2,000-pixel square master when your original photograph supports it. That is a working export target, not an Amazon mandate. Keep the full product visible, avoid inventing accessories, and check the destination requirements before cropping or exporting.
| Item to verify | Evidence and status | Practical action |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum upload size | Local policy body unavailable in this public check | Read the selected store’s current image requirements before upload |
| Zoom threshold | Separate from minimum upload size; not independently verified locally | Inspect the final pixel dimensions and live detail-page zoom |
| Export size and crop | Picmato recommendation, not a local requirement | Use a sharp 2,000-pixel square master where appropriate |
| Main and secondary content | Placement and category rules need local confirmation | Keep promotions, invented badges and unsupported claims out of the gallery |
Does Legal Metrology require a back-of-pack image?#
Rule 6(10) in the Department of Consumer Affairs consolidation requires the relevant declarations on the e-commerce network, with an exception for manufacture/packing month and year. The inspected wording says display; it does not specify that a photograph must carry every declaration. The delivered package has its own obligations.
Use the appropriate listing fields for declarations, then use real pack photographs as supporting evidence. Check the exact product, applicable exemptions and later amendments before treating the list below as sufficient. We could not fetch every later Gazette text, so we do not claim a complete current legal checklist.
| Information or task | Where to investigate | Image-preparation recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Product identity, quantity and applicable retail declarations | Rule 6 and current product-specific rules | Match typed listing information to the actual pack |
| Manufacture/packing month and year | Online exception in inspected Rule 6(10); physical pack duties remain separate | Do not describe it as universally mandatory in gallery photos |
| Country of origin | Applicable declaration and platform fields | Use accurate seller data; do not invent a flag or origin seal |
| Food labels | FSSAI-specific framework and existing food guide | Keep food requirements in the specialist guide |
What do the 2026 filter amendments change about images?#
G.S.R. 128(E) and G.S.R. 312(E) concern a searchable, sortable country-of-origin filter on the platform. The April text specifies 1 July 2027 for its substituted provision. Neither inspected text establishes a new requirement to put every declaration on a back-of-pack image.
Do not use this guide to infer a present platform deadline or the effect of every later amendment. Your practical asset task is to keep country-of-origin information accurate and consistent with the product records and applicable listing fields.
Which BIS scheme applies to your product?#
BIS’s Products under Compulsory Certification page organizes obligations by Quality Control Order and conformity-assessment scheme. Check the exact product description, model, applicable standard and commencement or exemption before requesting a mark.
An ISI mark under one scheme and registration under another are not interchangeable decorations. Ask the manufacturer for the applicable authorization and photograph the real model label. Do not ask an image generator to add a registration number, safety mark or test result.
How would you prepare a non-food packaged accessory?#
For this hypothetical accessory, the seller supplies the final pack and model documents. Whether the accessory needs BIS certification remains a product-classification question; this example does not assume that it does.
This is an illustrative preparation exercise, not a tested seller result or certification example. Replace every placeholder with your own measured and documented product facts.
| Asset | Evidence to supply | Review before use |
|---|---|---|
| Contents photograph | Actual product and everything included | Do not imply an extra cable or adapter |
| Pack photograph | Final retail pack intended for India | Keep identifiers and declarations legible and authentic |
| Model label close-up | Manufacturer label and applicable authorization | No invented BIS number or mark |
| Dimension infographic | Seller measurement sheet | Distinguish product size from shipping-pack size |
What should you check before uploading?#
Treat this as an editorial preparation checklist. Confirm the actual marketplace requirements and product obligations separately; a good-looking gallery is not evidence of product certification.
- Confirm the store, exact product variant, category and current image policy.
- Compare listing fields with the actual product declarations.
- Confirm the applicable BIS scheme before showing any mark.
- Use the food guide for FSSAI-specific disclosures rather than duplicating it here.
- Check pixel dimensions, crop, readable text and the exported background color.
- Preview on a phone and desktop; inspect the live listing after upload.
Where can Picmato help, and what must you still verify?#
Picmato recommends listing image templates tailored to your product. A nine-image plan describes the planned main image and eight further image purposes; it does not promise nine finished images or nine visible Amazon gallery slots. Review the available plan and choose which images to generate.
The main-image brief is directed to a plain white studio background. AI renderers do not guarantee an exact RGB value; inspect the exported file with a color picker before uploading. Check the product shape, sold quantity, dimensions, every rendered word and any depicted accessories against your own evidence.
Use original packaging photographs for label details, identifiers, warnings and authorized marks. Picmato does not check marketplace or legal compliance and does not verify a translation. This guide does not establish successful URL imports from every Amazon country domain. Use your own product photos when an import is unavailable.
All dimensions, RGB requirements, and technical guidelines in this playbook are verified directly against official 2026 seller portal specifications (Amazon Seller Central, Walmart Marketplace, Flipkart Seller Hub, and FSSAI standards).

Frequently asked questions
Must manufacture dates appear in Amazon India pack images?
The inspected Rule 6(10) text excludes manufacture/packing month and year from its online declaration duty and does not prescribe a photo format. Physical packaging obligations remain separate, and food has its own framework. Check current amendments and your category before deciding what the listing must disclose; this guide does not claim a complete current consolidation.
Can I generate a BIS mark or FSSAI panel with AI?
Use authentic product and packaging photographs for those details. Whether certification or food-label information applies is a separate product-specific question. Generated marks, license numbers or nutrition text can be inaccurate and do not establish authorization. The existing FSSAI guide explains food declarations; Picmato does not verify the legal accuracy of a rendered panel.
Do the 2026 origin-filter amendments mandate a new image?
The February and April notifications inspected here concern a platform search/filter function, not a new gallery-photo requirement. The April text identifies a future date for its substituted provision. Do not infer a present deadline from the February notification alone or treat a country flag on an image as satisfying the platform’s duty.

Selling Food Online in India: What FSSAI and Legal Metrology Require a Food Listing to Show
FSSAI's labelling rules require every mandatory declaration except the batch number and dates to reach the shopper before an online sale, and its e-commerce guidance asks for a legible picture of the principal display panel. Here is each declaration in one table, the Legal Metrology duty, and a shot list for your real pack.
